Eczema update…

For a few months now I have mainly talked about products on here so I thought it was about time I did an eczema/skin/life update…

2F2E8B12-1A63-4D6D-BE50-5069E73DA605

This picture was taken at the end of August just before I was going to a festival for the day. This is when I thought my eczema was looking quite good so can you imagine how bad it’s been over the past year?!

Looking at it now, I still don’t think it looks that bad. Yeah, it’s red, a bit weepy and I can remember it being really itchy but it almost just looks like mosquito bites. I was still worried people would stare at me though or think I had some gross contagious disease. I hate how the slightest imperfection makes you think so little of yourself. At the end of the day, who gives a fuck about a few red bumps on the back of someone’s leg? It’s so hard to not give a fuck though!

I never took any pictures of my skin when it was at it worst because I just couldn’t face it. I really wish I had now so I could compare and see how far I’ve come but at the time I never thought it would get better. Today my skin and scalp are under control and pretty much clear. It feels amazing! I never thought it would get to this stage, especially in winter. It’s been a really tough journey going back and forth to the doctors every month, going to the pharmacy every two weeks, trying to stay calm in the worst of times, all whilst working full time and trying to have a normal life…it was all worth it though! I’ve finally got a solid routine that works for me, even the red patch of doom on my jaw has gone!

Getting my life back over the past few months has felt amazing. I can wear make up all day now without wanting to scratch my face off! I can stay at my friends houses! I can wear what I want! I don’t have to moisturise my whole body a million times a day anymore! Yaaassss! Here’s to clear, stress free skin in 2018!!!

Keep those bars of soap away from me though…

My 2017 Top 5…

First of all…HAPPY NEW YEAR! Secondly, I’m writing this very hungover so if it doesn’t make sense then sorry but prosecco and apple vodka got the better of me last night.

I thought today would be a good day to reflect a little on the last year and talk about my top 5 favourite products of 2017. It’s been a crazy year, with a lot of lows but it’s ending on a massive high! My skin is under control, I’m getting my life back and I am so much more happier in myself. Right, before I get emotional in my delicate state let’s get into it…

3D930505-9027-4797-9030-66BD71A74024

  1. Child’s Farm Baby Moisturiser. This moisturiser has helped me so much over the past year. It’s light, it’s gentle, it smells like babies, it’s a dream. I never thought a lotion would make my skin feel super hydrated but this one does. It sinks it quickly, it doesn’t leave you feeling greasy and it’s cheeeaaaappppppp!
  2. Mario Badescu Facial Spray. I’ve always been a bit sceptical of facial sprays because how much can a thin mist do?! This stuff is so good though! I use it as a makeup setting spray and it really does keep my skin hydrated and glowy all day! A little pricey but this bottle has lasted 5 months and there’s still about a quarter left!
  3. Glossier Boy Brow. I had to put a Glossier product in this top 5 because it is probably my top brand discovery of 2017. Their products are just so good for us dry gals! Boy Brow has just changed my brow game! It’s so easy to use, makes your brows look natural and full without any effort at all. I love it!
  4. Oilatum Scalp Shampoo. I can deal with a red, sore body but an itchy, flakey scalp is the worst feeling in the world. I’ve had a big battle with my scalp this year, it’s been flake city!! I finally got control of it by using this stuff and I still use it now to keep on top of things. It’s gentle, soothing, keeps hair glossy and it works!
  5. Egyptian Magic. Ok, so I know I have raved about this cream for a while now but this is definitely my top product discovery of 2017! It’s completely sorted my face out, seriously it’s changed everything! I use it morning and night to keep my skin smooth and hydrated. It is very expensive but a little goes a long way and it’s worth it to say it keeps everything calm and flake free. I bloody love it!

So there we are, I know I’ve spoken about these products quite a lot before but they really have helped my skin heal through 2017. They work so well for me and it’s thanks to them that I am finally able to get my life back without worrying about my skin all the time.

Heres to another 12 months of healing and sticking our middle fingers up to eczema!!

First Impression: Space Masks…

I’ve had a little unscheduled break from blogging because of life and you know what, I’ve bloody missed it! It’s been really nice to have a bit of space and time to reflect but now I’m getting back on it! You’ve not seen the last of me just yet!

So, it’s the Christmas holidaaaayyyyssssss waaaaahooooooo! You all know what that means…SLEEP! But of course, the minute I break up from work I can’t sleep. This happens every single time I’m off! I end up going to bed really late but then I’m wide awake thinking about breakfast at 6am. Whhyyy?! Give a gal a break! That’s why I have decided to give Space Masks a try…

CB7D05C1-664E-4FAB-8E04-8D782A4E4B6B

I received my mask in my November Skin Organics Beauty Box and had every intention of using it throughout the whole of November but I am so glad I waited until my school-break-insomnia kicked in! This is a DREAM (har har har). In each pouch there is a self heating eye mask that stays warm for around 15 minutes, just enough time for you to drift off. They have essence of jasmine, with just the right amount of fragrance so it’s not overpowering and distracting. The eye mask itself is amazing quality for a disposable! I thought it would be a thin, flimsy mask that could fall off easily but it’s really thick, soft and the elastics are just the right length to be super comfortable around ears.

I drifted off quite quickly with this on, the mask was definitely still warm by the time I had fallen to sleep. I had the best nights sleep too! I didn’t wake up once in the night and felt so rested the next day. Urgh, they’re perfect! You could definitely get a few uses out of it too, I mean, it won’t heat up again but the calming jasmine scent is still there to help you unwind.

I’ve never tried a product like this to help my random bouts of insomnia but I love them and will definitely be buying a box full! A nights rest is so important and beneficial for healing skin and it is true what they say, you really do feel so much better after a good nights sleep!

You can buy these dreamy mask at http://www.spacemasks.com

I have not been paid to write this post, I’m just a tired gal who wants a good nights sleep.

Review: Glossier makeup…

I love makeup. I love wearing makeup, I love doing my make up, I love shopping for makeup. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind a bare face but makeup just makes me feel better, do you know what I mean? My face is literally drier than the Sahara desert so I have to be quite careful with how I apply my makeup base because it just sticks to all the dry bits and looks awwffullllll. I like to wear makeup everyday for work and to help my skin breathe I never wear too much but I like there to be some there so I don’t look like a corpse. It’s just not a good look for me ok. I’ve experimented a lot with different makeup bases but never found any that have changed the game. Recently (I’m really late to the party) Glossier started to ship to the UK, I’ve read a lot about their products and was sold on the promise of a ‘healthy, natural glow’. We all know I love to glooowwwwwwwww!

415E457E-A6E2-4675-B4E6-1EB8C277AA98

After having a good look at their website and reading a lot of reviews, I decided on the Skin Tint – £20, Boy Brow – £14 and Cloud paint – £15. I know that may seem a little pricey for ‘no makeup makeup’ but No7 has very similar pricing and leave me alone I can’t help myself ok.

Skin tint… Love it. I’m sold. Cya. Seriously though this is so nice. It’s quite thin and literally gives a tint, obviously, of colour to the skin. It glides on so easily and really hydrates. I definitely only feel comfortable using this when my skin is looking good but it is a great every day makeup base that doesn’t clog up pores and lets skin breathe. I love how light it feels and at the end of a working day I don’t feel like I need to take my makeup off as soon as I get home.

Boy Brow… I’ve only ever used powder products on my brows so at first I found this quite hard to use. Luckily my eyebrows are quite bushy and full so I don’t need to fill them but they do need a bit of taming and this does the job perfectly. It keeps them in place all day without making them feel crispy and weird and it gives them that cool brushed out natural look.

Cloud Paint… I got this in the colour Dusk because I think it’s the most muted of the colours they sell. I prefer brownish tones on my cheeks rather than a bright blush and I also thought this colour would be great to contour with. I’ve never liked applying cream blushes because they take ages, they go everywhere and it’s so easy to accidently put loads on. You barely need any of the product and it dabs on so nicely! I honestly never thought I would love a product like this! It blends out so quick and goes on evenly without any patches, it just gives the most perfect flush to the cheeks. I love it!

244770BD-4C8E-47B6-AD91-75A810B982E3.jpeg

In my package I also got samples of the Milk Jelly Cleanser and their perfume Glossier You. I’ve been wanting to try the cleanser for aaaages, it’s had so many positive reviews! I liked it but I’m not sure that I would buy a big bottle of it. It felt nice on my skin, cleansed my face well and I had no reaction at all but I didn’t like the squeaky clean feeling it gave me afterwards. I think I need to try it again to really make up my mind as I only got one use out of the sachet. I love the perfume though! I know I am fragrance free and I hardly ever use perfume but one spray on my clothes is alright every now and again. This smells lovely, really fresh, cool and it suits the brand so much!

So yeah, basically I love Glossier and now I need every product. I just love how they’re all about the dewy, natural look whilst hydrating and protecting the skin. All their products are paraben free, fragrance free, cruelty free and hypoallergenic. Literally my dream brand! I am also a converted ‘no makeup makeup’ lover…am I Emily Weiss yet???

DIY Pink Salt Bath Melts…

I’m back with another DIY, I can’t get enough! Yes this is very similar to my other bath melt DIY but this recipe was a happy little accident when I was experimenting in my kitchen and I had to share it with you!

Ahhh winter you are so lovely but my skin hates you. Dry skin during the colder months is very common but for me it seems like even if I just go outside for 2 minutes the flakes appear! Can you not! The only way to get around this is to get that moisture in to your skin and keep it there! Baths and oils are a good way to do this so I mixed the two to create these dreamy, silky, pink salt bath melts. Let’s get making…

You will need:

  • A glass bowl.
  • A jug.
  • A metal spoon.
  • Silicon moulds (I use cupcake ones).
  • A pan of boiling water.
  • Shea butter.
  • Coconut oil.
  • Pink Himalayan bath salts (I’m using Nathalie Bond Organics Rose and Patchouli bath salts).

C8A7915D-DA2C-4A04-860A-F31E7DF3D76F

The first step is to add 3 heaped tablespoons of coconut oil and 3 heaped tablespoons of shea butter to the glass bowl using the metal spoon. It’s easier to clean the soon if it’s metal because of the oils. Then melt the two together by putting the glass bowl on the pan of boiling water and gently stir. I usually have my hob on a medium heat so that the oils should melt slowly without overheating.

When it’s all melted together pour the mixture into the jug and divide evenly into the silicon moulds. Like I said in my last bath melts post, I use cupcake moulds because I already had them and I like my melts to be quite chunky but you can’t use any moulds you like!

626917A9-DD6C-4DAB-98A3-6AB7F6D4F7F6

When the oil mixture has cooled a little bit in the moulds but not started to set, sprinkle in a tablespoon or so of the bath salts. The mixture should still be runny and clear so the salts will all sink to the bottom of your moulds. Pop them in the freezer for 2-3 hours and once set keep in the fridge until you are ready to use.

16CDBC8F-4088-45E1-960F-7622469FDE2A

Thats it! These bath melts are perfect for this time of year because the combination of shea butter and coconut oil is highly moisturising without any harsh chemicals. The Nathalie Bond Organics salts that I used will also work well because they have Dead Sea salt and rose, two ingredients that are amazing for dry, sensitive, eczema prone skin. So treat yourself to bath and lock in that moisture! Also, like the lavender bath melts, these would also make a great gift for any dry, flakey pals!

Please make sure you wipe down the bath after you have used bath melts because they can be very slippery! Locking in moisture does not mean we need to break our legs people!

Updated morning skincare routine…

In September I shared my updated evening skincare routine and I thought it was about time I shared my morning one too! As you know if you have been reading my posts, over the past few months I have really stripped my skincare back to basics. I’ve been concentrating more on keeping control of my clear skin rather than trying to achieve the impossible (looking like a Snapchat filter). So let’s get into it…

045341FF-217E-4465-B2EF-3D36B7F19F5B

  • Hydromol.

Oh Hydromol, I love you. You are so strange but so good. I shower at night so in the morning I start off by washing my face. I use Hydromol as a soap substitute in the shower but it’s also a great facial cleanser for super dry skin. I wet my face, take around a £2 coins worth of Hydromol in my hand, add a bit of water and rub my hands together to make a creamy cleanser. I rub it all over my face, really concentrating on any problematic areas and then slowly pat it off with a soft sponge or muslin cloth. I will then pat my face dry with a towel and get ready for the next step.

  • Childs Farm Baby Moisturiser.

Baby skincare products are always the best for super sensitive skin! If you would have told me 6 months ago that I use a lotion as my daily moisturiser I would have laughed! My face is soooo dry that I always thought only the really thick and heavy creams would work…not any more! I apply about half a pump or so of this cream all I’ve my face and neck, concentrating on the places that need it the most and then I let it sink in for a minute.

  • Egyptian Magic.

I know I rave about this cream a lot but seriously, it’s amazing! I only apply about a pea sized bit in the mornings because my face is already quite hydrated from the Hydromol and Childs Farm but I love the glow it gives to my skin and it’s also a bit of added protection throughout the day against this cold weather! After I have patted my pea sized amount into my skin I apply my makeup like normal.

These three steps are really working for me at the minute, especially along side my evening routine. My skin feels soft, plump and at the minute (touch wood) it’s free of any redness and dry patches! I feels hydrated throughout the day and the lightness of the Childs Farm moisturiser means my skin can breathe and doesn’t get congested like it used to. I’m loving it and I’m feeling really content with my skin at the moment!

What products do you use in the morning?

How I look after my dry scalp…

Since November 2016 my scalp has been on another level of dryness and over the past few months I have finally started to get proper control of it. That’s nearly a year of dealing with an itchy, dry head! Never again! I have tried so many different products over the past year but now I feel like I have a proper plan in place and I’m going to share that with you today…

4744BBED-9249-4B32-8B39-3A2FA7AF515A

  • Daily…

Sometimes I wash my hair daily, sometimes I wash it around 3 times a week and sometimes I wash it once a week. It totally goes on how my hair/scalp is feeling, what plans I have and if I can be bothered. When I do wash it I always use an anti dandruff shampoo…I miss you nice smelling shampoos! At the minute I am using this Oilatum shampoo to keep the itch away and keep everything calm. It also leaves your hair soft and swishy, which I have found it quite hard to find in an anti dandruff shampoo! It is also great to use daily as there’s no build up, yaaasss!

6A2F1957-58BC-4240-8EFF-1731E60E3791.jpeg

  • Keeping things calm…

To keep my scalp happy I use these bad boys twice a week. The Eucerin Dermo Capillaire range is so good for crazy, unpredictable scalps! I really like using them together because they keep the dryness and flakes away, as well as the itchiness. It’s always the itchiness that starts the scratch circle of death isn’t it! Damn you itchiness! I also really like using the shampoo on its own and quite often alternate it with the Oilatum one. This shampoo also leaves hair swishy, soft and I even get a lot of shine from it! The leave on treatment is a thin solution that goes on the scalp really easily and dries without leaving a residue. I like applying this stuff at night after I’ve washed my hair so it has loads of time to work and by morning my scalp always feeling amazing.

  • When things get bad…

What I find with eczema is that you can prevent, prevent, prevent but one day you wake up and everything gone wrong…you’re  bright red, itchy, sore, weepy and you just want scream bloody murder and scratch your skin off. Who else has been there?! This has happened quite a few times with my scalp so now I have a plan in place…I’m not a big fan of the plan because ahhhh chemicals but sometimes when you can’t get a brush through your hair or your scalp is weeping so much you’re sticking to your pillow case then something needs to be done. I’m a firm believer in not suffering. I get these two products prescribed through my doctor after a consultation so they can’t be overused. Nizoral is an anti fungal shampoo that really dries things up and brings relief fast. I only use this a couple of times when my scalp is bad because it is very vey drying, which is good for weeping sores but not great for flakes. Betnovate Scalp Application is a steroid based watery solution that you apply to any areas of the scalp that are particularly bad. Like with the Nizoral, I only use this until I feel I can use the other products to do the rest of the work. This is because I don’t like using steroids too often on my skin but like I said I don’t believe in suffering and I will only use them as a last resort.

What do you use to calm your scalp?

First impression Friday – Ezápé Naturals Chamomile Balm…

I love a good balm, especially this time of year when the weather starts getting colder. My skin gets so dry that standard moisturisers just don’t cut it and I am always on the hunt for the perfect balm.

As I have said in previous posts, I am starting to use more natural products on my skin and swapping out my current favourites for like for like products. Get those pesky chemicals away from me!

I recently came across Ezápé Naturals on Instagram and ordered a couple of their sample sized balms. For £1.50 you get a sample of the rosemary body butter and the chamomile balm. They’re good sizes too! I wish more companies did that because get those tiny, fiddly sachets away from me! Vanessa, who owns the company, kindly gifted me a larger sized pot of the chamomile balm after we got chatting, which is completely unexpected and very generous of her!

img_4747

First of all this balm is 100% natural and handmade in the UK. YAS! The balm glides on to skin and melts in very quickly, leaving a protective barrier without the greasiness. This was what I really like about this product because I can use it in the day without it transferring onto my clothes, phone or what else is around me. I have also noticed that after I have washed my hands, there is still a moisturised feeling so I haven’t had to reapply 5000 times throughout the day and a little bit of this stuff goes a long way! The balm smells really light and delicate, perfect for skin that can be irritated easily by strong fragrances (mine…miss you perfume). I have also noticed a difference in my hand eczema after only a few days. My hands, knuckles especially, get really dry and cracked at this time of year, you know that sort of eczema that no matter how many times you moisturise it’s still dry…well this balm has sorted them out! The itchiness has definitely gone and they’re slowly starting the heal! I can actually bend my hands without them splitting open! Yassssssss!

F6102C01-2364-441D-92ED-86A847BC3450

Overall, I really like this balm and what the brand stands for. They have proved that you can treat dry, sensitive skin with products that are 100% natural without all the fuss. This pot will definitely be staying next to my kitchen sink as I have no excuse for dry hands anymore!

You can pick up your pot of chamomile balm from http://www.ezapenaturals.co.uk for £10-20 or £1.50 for 2 sample sized pots.

As I said earlier I was kindly gifted this product by the brand but in no way am I getting paid or being told what to write for this review. All words and opinions are my own.

My skincare wish list…

It’s no secret I’m addicted to shopping for new skincare, looking for new skincare and researching new skincare. I just bloody love the stuff! Since I finally realised that you should try a new product for at least 28 days before you start seeing results I have cut back on my spending (I hate being a grown up). So, naturally, I have a list as long as my arm full of products I really want to give a go…

  • The entire Avène range.

The packaging…the amazing reputation. I need it all! I’d also really like to go to the Avène hydrotherapy centre in France, which is dedicated solely to dermatology!!!! France isn’t even far! Anyone want to take a flakey gal to her dream spa?? No? Fine. I’ll save up.

  • The Body Shop Hemp range.

I’ve read good things about this range, especially the hand cream for eczema. I also really like saying the word hemp.

  • The Body Shop Vitamin E range.
  • The Body Shop Chamomile range.

Maybe I just need to live in The Body Shop for a while?

  • Too Faced Hangover Primer.

Please save my dull looking skin but also please be a bit cheaper.

  • Kiehls Midnight Recovery Oil.
  • Kiehls Revive Concentrate Oil.
  • Kiehls Christmas advent calendar.

This is seriously the advent calendar of dreams! It’s full of deluxe samples and I need every single one right now!

  • Glossier Milk Jelly Cleanser.

Glossier products recently came to the UK so naturally I need them all! I’ve also never tried any of their products before. Will I be allergic? Maybe. Will my face fall off? It could happen. Will I regret it? Who knows?? This is why I’d like to try it out!!

  • Fenty Beauty.

I don’t think this ones needs much of an explanation. Get that gold highlight on me and get those magnetic dreamy sticks in my make up drawer.

So yeah, that’s just a small selection of products I am desperate to try out but will have to wait because my bank balance is currently weeping. Seriously, this grown up thing is tricky!

On a serious note, what products do you have on your shopping lists? Or do you have suggestions of any skincare I should try out?
