Scrub Month: Week 2 – DIY yogurt face mask…

I have a serious love for face masks. When your face is allergic to literally everything it comes in to contact with, like mine, then it can be quite hard to find a shop bought face mask that won’t make you feel like you’ve just poured molten lava over your head. After years of trying every natural mask I could get my hands on without success, I finally gave up and started making my own and I’m going to share one of them with you!

This face mask is made with natural yogurt, honey and ground oats. This is perfect for when you are going through an eczema flare and the skin is quite irritable due to the healing properties in the ingredients (I’ll explain more later).

Ok, let gets making…

First of all you will need to put 3 tbls of natural yogurt in a bowl. Then add 1 tbls of honey and 2 heaped tbls of ground oats (I just blitz rolled oats in the blender). After that give it all a good mix until it looks like the picture below.

Thats it! How easy was that! Now slap it all over your face and neck and leave on for 10-20 minutes before washing off with warm water. You can even put this on other inflamed areas of the body if you need to. This recipe makes 2 face masks for me so after I’ve put the first one on, I will put the rest in an air tight container and leave in the fridge. It’ll save for around 5 days, perfect!

Ok, so now I’ll tell you why these ingredients are amazing for eczema prone skin that is in need of some love. Natural yogurt, honey and oats all moisturise and sooth inflamed skin. The honey and yogurt both have antibacterial and anti fungal properties, while the oats reduce itching. Honey is also packed full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and the lactic acid in natural yogurt helps smooth and exfoliate. The ground oats also exfoliate whilst restoring the skin barrier and the coolness of the mask will cool any hot, red eczema patches right down.

I hope you love this mask as much as I do and if you do try it out for yourself then please let me know what you think!
